Craft Workshop Young Person Opportunity

We are pleased to offer one complimentary place on each of our traditional building crafts taster workshops, based at either our York or our Beverley venue. These are aimed at GCSE & A-Level students who will be thinking seriously about their career direction.

The current WORKSHOP TYPES are as follows:

  • 1-Day Stained-Glass – Tutor – Helen Bower
  • 1-Day Glass Painting & Glazing  – Tutor – Helen Bower
  • 1-Day Letter-Cutting-in-Stone – Tutor – Matthias Garn
  • 1-Day Wood Carving – Tutor – Kibby Schaefer

These 1-day taster sessions are focused on learning a new technique, not necessarily producing a perfectly polished piece, which takes many years of practice. It will give insight and appreciation of a centuries old craft tradition, to inspire and encourage more people to use is as their artistic language of expression today. We would like students to see that these are worthwhile and fulfilling career options to pursue.

Upon application, we request that the student writes a short introductory report about themselves and their interests prior to the workshop. We also ask that the successful student writes a post-workshop report, detailing their experience and thoughts about the day; what they have learnt, what they wish to progress to in the future, and for instance, what particular aspect of the day struck a chord with them.

If a student is willing and displays an aptitude for the work, we can build on their experience with us, and offer further opportunities to learn with us as part of their study programme.
